On September 15th the workshop on “sport and SOCIETY” was held in Budapest with participants from Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia, France and the UK.

Katalin Horváth, programme coordinator at the Tempus Public Foundation in Budapest, informed about the Europe for Citizens Programme and the European Year of Volunteering 2011.

As in Vienna and Paris, Andrea Greis presented the results of the EU:SPORT:FUTURE online questionnaire.  Relevant best practice examples from Hungary and Austria highlighted the societal role of sport in particular in the field of social cohesion, sustainability and youth.

After the introductory part the participants split up into two groups to discuss about the topic “SPORT AND SOCIETY” more detailed. The workshop leaders were Sophie Christ, CNOSF and Michael Trinker, BSO.

Special thanks has to be contributed to the Hungarian Sport State Secretariat for supporting the implementation of the workshop in the Danubius Hotel Arena in Budapest.

The workshop on “sport and SOCIETY” is part of a total of five thematic citizen panels. Two were organised at the end of May in Vienna discussing “sport and health” and “sport and education”. Another two were held at the end of June in Paris with the topics “SPORT AND VOLUNTEERING” and “SPORT AND EMPLOYMENT”. A final conference will take place at the end of October in Portugal to present the results of the citizens panels.
